Commonly known as Mount Warning, Wollumbin is the central core of the
largest extinct shield volcano in the Southern Hemisphere. This core was once
the magma chamber of an Ancient Volcano.
The Bundjalung people lived on the land long before European settlement.
"Wollumbin", which means "Cloud Catcher" or "Weather Maker" holds deep
significance to them. Wollumbin is the first place in Australia to be touched
by the morning sun. Millenia ago just before the volcano gave up its fire,
it gathered the mysteries from deep in the Earth, in its last breath which it
pushed skyward till it solidified. Today only the very fit and adventurous can
climb right to the top of Wollumbin to bathe in the breath taking views.
